This is my very first 3d animated short movie that was done with a team of 2 people: Julia Covolan and me.
I was responsible for storyboard, art direction, modelling, rigging, texture, look dev and comp.
Here Below I'm going to show you some of my process for colour, art direction, comp and post production ;)
First I got the concept of the characters above, and after modeling them and trying out some greenhouses ideas and experimenting with some colours I got to this image of the opening scene of Beet Me.
We were aiming at this painting grainy style with vivid colours, despite being a movie about sexism, it's supposed to be light, funny and acessible for kids, so this eye catching pallete was chosen.
We wanted the purple from the beets to represent this feminine presence, while the green of the zucchinis the male one and having this orange/brownish being somewhat neutral.

So we organized our storyboard, ajusted some of the cameras and started working on how the colour would change to show which character was dominating during each take and still reveal how our main teacher character was feeling, and organized a basic colour pallete and painted some of our main frames. Mainting the orangey for neutral, green for zucchinis, purple for beets and added some more heat and saturation to help us show how much the beet teacher was angry and how, at the end, green wasn't dominating everything anymore, having a more balanced green x purple pallete.
Then we finished modeling, rigging, animating, light and everything in 3d and started post production with after effects. Editing and sound design was later done by Julia. Since there are many scenes, I'm going to show a few of them.
